Batten and Linear Lighting

LED batten lights are rapidly replacing dated fluorescent tube technology in retail, commercial and industrial applications and residential installations like garages and utility rooms, primarily due to their significantly lower power consumption and longer life spans. Collingwood offers a wide range of IP20 battens for general indoor use and IP65 anti-corrosive batten lights, the latter being designed for more challenging conditions in factories, work bays, and car parks. Both provide many compelling advantages including a 2-year on-site warranty.

The benefits of LED batten lights

Just as fluorescent tubes replaced incandescent light bulbs because they were far more energy-efficient, replacing fluorescent batten lights with LED batten fittings will yield substantial energy savings.

For example, T8 is one of the most widely used fluorescent tubes, often replacing T12s in large areas because of its greater energy efficiency.

Yet run 100 typical T8 fluorescent lamps in your warehouse for a year and you would be looking at an energy bill of £26,928 (based on a rate of 15p per kWh). Compare that figure with the same number of Collingwood’s equivalent LED fittings, run for the same period at the same energy rate, and the bill would be just £9180.

These savings are substantial and could not be replicated with any competitor products because Collingwood LED battens provide market-leading efficiency by a significant margin. Take our IP65 anti-corrosive range, for example: our 1200mm single provides 147 lm/W, our 1500mm standard 143 lm/W, and our 1800mm standard 155 lm/W. These compare with an industry average of just 112 lm/W. Indeed, no manufacturer offers superior efficiency in any size.

With LED battens, not only will you reduce your energy bills, but you'll also go far longer between replacements. Fluorescent tubes last, on average, just 12,000 hours, compared with the Collingwood LED luminaire that will last for 50,000 hours.

Finally, another significant benefit is that all LED batten lights are chemical-free, making them perfectly safe to fit in schools, hospitals and factories. Because they contain no toxic waste, they can be disposed of easily with no need for special treatment, as is the case when disposing of fluorescent tubes.

Choose Collingwood’s IP20 LED batten lights for general use

Collingwood’s indoor IP20 batten lights are ideal for all general commercial, residential or light industrial uses with a wide range of alternatives available. They come in all three popular lengths (four, five and six foot) as both a single or twin fitting, and motion sensor, self-testing emergency and dimmable (DALI2 and 1-10V) options are available.

Designed for ease of installation with push-fit terminals that allow loop in/loop out without the need for tools, they may be fixed to ceilings or walls or suspended utilizing a suspension kit. Flicker-free and backed by a 5-year extended warranty, at up to 130lm/W they also provide market-leading efficiency, ensuring unbeatable energy savings and an exceptional return on investment.

The best LED anti-corrosive light fittings on the market

Anti-corrosive lights, sometimes known as non-corrosive lights, are the industry-specific terms for the especially tough, dust-proof, weatherproof fittings needed when lighting warehouses, factories and workshops, cold stores and loading bays. Anywhere, basically, where the presence of damp or dirt particles in the atmosphere could adversely impact the luminaire.

Collingwood's anti-corrosive battens are truly designed to withstand tough environments. The high-impact polycarbonate base and diffuser maintain flexibility at room temperature, which means that they will tolerate some movement, whilst an IK08 rating indicates that they will withstand substantial impact.

The base and diffuser are held together with anti-tamper stainless steel clips. Whilst a tight rubber seal and compression cable glands mean that the fittings are both fully dust-tight and weatherproof, maintaining an IP65 rating.

Collingwood's anti-corrosive battens are available in single and twin fixtures in a choice of three industry-standard lengths (1200, 1500 and 1800mm). All may be surface mounted or suspended using stainless steel mounting or hanging fixing brackets; cable entry points at both the rear and either side provide maximum flexibility. Options include both DALI and microwave sensors as well as emergency versions for all three operating systems.

Like our IP20 LED battens, all Collingwood anti-corrosives are flicker-free and covered by a 5-year extended warranty and a 2-year on-site warranty.

How to optimize your multistorey car park lighting

Good light levels and light distribution are vital to instilling personal safety in dark car parks and basement garages. They also make it easier to see road markings and other cars, which helps to reduce accidents. Replacing the poor, dull, fluorescent and CFL lighting commonly found in parking areas with LED luminaires improves the user experience and reduces operational expenditure.

A 24/7, 365 days-a-year operation means a potential annual illumination requirement in excess of 8000 hours. So clearly optimum efficiency and a long lamp lifespan are key to reducing energy and maintenance costs.

On the face of it, utilizing substitute LED tubes in existing fittings may appear to be a cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption. But the old polycarbonate fixtures often fail long before the new tubes, which results in doing the same job twice. Integrated fittings with an IP65 rating are also far better suited to operating in the typically damp, dirty conditions found in car parks.

Furthermore, since LED light is instant and our fittings are free from flicker, motion sensors and other lighting controls can be introduced to optimize energy usage, leading to even more significant savings.
